Network Security policy
At ServerAstra, we take the security of our customers' data and network very seriously. To ensure the highest level of protection, we employ several measures, including blocking outgoing Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) port 25 and automated abuse monitoring. This page provides detailed information on our policies and the reasons behind them.

SMTP Port 25 Blocking Policy
SMTP is an essential protocol that facilitates the sending of emails over the Internet. Port 25 is the standard port used by SMTP for outgoing email traffic. However, it is also a favorite target for spammers and cybercriminals to exploit and send out massive amounts of spam emails or distribute malware.
To protect our network and customers from such threats, we have implemented the following policy:
- We block outgoing SMTP port 25 by default for all customers.
- The block can be removed for new customers if the active account balance is at least €50 + €5 per each additional IP. For example if you have 10 ips your balance after server payment must be €100 to request for SMTP unlock. The balance can be used for future server payment but cannot be refunded. If you request SMTP unlocked you waive your right for refunds completely.
- Customers may alternatively use submission SMTP ports (465 or 587).
This policy helps us ensure that our customers' email services remain free from spam and malware, and their accounts are not used for malicious purposes.
Firewall Protection
A firewall is a fundamental component of our network security strategy. It acts as a barrier between our customers' internal networks and the external Internet, monitoring and controlling incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predefined security rules.
We employ firewall cluster for:
- Intrusion prevention and detection.
- Traffic filtering based on IP addresses, protocols, and ports.
- Secure remote access through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
- Emerging thread monitoring and prevention.
By implementing such policy, we can effectively safeguard our customers from both external and internal threats.
Automated Abuse processing
We are committed to maintaining a secure and abuse-free network for our customers. As part of this commitment, we have implemented an automated abuse complaint monitoring and processing system. This system helps us effectively manage and respond to abuse complaints related to activities on our network, such as spam, phishing, or copyright infringement. When we receive an abuse complaint, our automated system categorizes and prioritizes the complaint for timely resolution by our dedicated abuse team. By promptly addressing abuse complaints, we not only ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations but also maintain a positive reputation for our network, benefiting all our customers.
Benefits of Security Measures
Our comprehensive network security measures provide benefits to our customers, including:
- Reduced risk of data breaches: By blocking malicious traffic, monitoring network activity, and implementing strong firewall protection, we minimize the risk of unauthorized access to your sensitive data.
- Improved email reputation: By blocking outgoing SMTP port 25, we help prevent spam and malware distribution, ensuring your emails have a better chance of reaching their intended recipients.
- Compliance with industry regulations: Our security measures help you meet industry-specific security regulations and standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI DSS.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1: Why is my outgoing SMTP port 25 blocked during the first two months of service?
Blocking outgoing SMTP port 25 during the first two months of service helps us mitigate the risk of spam and malware distribution. This policy protects our customers and ensures the integrity of our network. After the second month of paid service, the port will be unblocked, and customers can resume using port 25 for SMTP.
Q2: What are the alternatives to using SMTP port 25?
During the first two months of service, customers can use alternative SMTP ports, such as 465 (with SSL) or 587 (with TLS), to securely send emails. These ports provide an encrypted connection, ensuring the privacy and security of your email communications.
Q3: Can I request an exception to the SMTP port 25 blocking policy?
We understand that some customers may require the use of SMTP port 25 before the completion of the two-month period. In such cases, we encourage customers to contact our support team with a detailed explanation of their requirements. We will review the request and, if justified, may grant an exception. If you are moving a reputable project to our servers, have a good reputation as our client, or you have successfully passed KYC your request will be automatically granted.
